Past

Toivo's biological parents were siblings who came from a large family of ten children. Their family had been well off, but that all changed with both their parents lost their jobs. The company that their father worked for had to close due to legal reason and their mother, who was a famous piano singer, ended up selling her voice in order to save Toivo's father from the insanity that often came with being a telepath. Yet, in spite the change of finances Toivo's parents had a rather happy childhood. Their family provided them with all the love and support that every child wanted and needed. Growing up his parents were extremely close and were often found within each other's company. One day they both realized they cared for each other more than siblings and eventually decided to act upon these feelings. It wasn't long after they embraced the true depth of their feelings for each other that their entire world was torn apart. The nightmare came because Toivo's father didn't share the affection of a rich socialite who had developed feelings for him.

She thought that someone of his father's social standing would be beyond grateful that someone of her position was interested with him and relish the chance to be with her. He didn't.  The socialite thought he was being foolish--even if he didn't love her, he should pretend that he did because she could raise his family lot within life. It didn't occur to her that others didn't need martial things to find happiness. She came to the conclusion his rejection came from the belief he didn't think she was good enough. While there might be truth within this conclusion, the true reason boiled down to the fact he was in love with another---his own sister. He didn't share this with the socialite and even if he had it wouldn't have changed what transpired next. She decided that she was going to force Tovio's father to be with her by hiring an assassin to kill his entire family. She thought the very moment she voiced her threat that Toivo's father would fall at her feet, but he rejected her still. In fact, he seemed more adamant with his decision.

Not being the type to go back on her word she went through with the plan. She might have believed that he would realize just how serious she was and agree to her terms just to save even one member of his family. He never did. In fact, he did something she never thought he was capable of and that was sell his soul to a demon in exchange for said demon saving his family. This deal came too late as majority of his family had been slaughtered by the time it was struck, but the fact that one was saved was good enough for Toivo's father. The demon not sharing his opinion allowed Toivo's father to keep his soul and because he saw something within his father offered him a chance to become a demon. Fueled by the rage of losing his family, Toivo's father accepted the demon's offer. Little did anyone know more members of the family survived that day. It might be said that one way or another that the majority did. Toivo's mother's survival came from the hand of the assassin, who had decided the very moment he saw her that he wanted her.

The assassin sensing the power within the family---the same power that the demon noticed within Toivo's father that allowed him to extend his offer after he failed to fulfill his end of the bargain. This assassin decided to consume their souls in order to harness their powers for himself. The only one decided to spare from such a fate was Toivo's mother, but she was still going to die. He, after all, had a job to complete. He was just going to claim her soul before it moved on to the afterlife, but before completed that act he took her many times and it was during these rapes that he realized that she was with child. It was clear that she was unaware that she was pregnant. The assassin could have let the fetus perish with the mother's body, but for some unknown reason he didn't. Instead, the assassin decided to rapidly grow the child to term and have Toivo's mother deliver him that night. The only thing he knew was he intended to keep the child and raise it like his own.

It wasn't long after Toivo came screaming into the world that the demon came to the rescue, but it wasn't just demon's powers at work that day. The youngest sibling of Toivo's parents' powers awoke that day, and he used it to send the soul stealing spell that the assassin cast back at him. The assassin attempted to shield himself from this counterattack, but perhaps his effort was too late or the boy too strong either way the assassin found himself affected by this spell. It, however, wasn't in the manner he had expected. He found himself being thrown out of the house and when he came to, he discovered he was sharing his body with another. He was shocked to discover this as he thought he had completely absorbed the soul of the one who currently shared his body. This was a bad thing as body isn't meant to host two souls and the souls will fight for dominance by forcing all the other souls within the body mere until only one remains.

It immediately became clear that the assassin was the weaker of the two. Perhaps, the other was simply more powerful, or it might be that the other possessed more of his soul, and this made him stronger. Whatever the truth, the assassin knew if he wanted to win dominance, he had to be patient. Controlling a body required energy--just as it took energy to grow a soul. It was for this reason that he allowed himself to be pushed down without much of a fight. So, he could focus his energy on regrowing his soul. Every once in a while, he would seize control of the body to keep the other aware of his existence. It wasn't long after the assassin settled within his spot within his body that realization that Toivo had been blasted with them occurred to them. Neither knew how the newborn survived the blast unscathed. The assassin rejoiced at this news because this meant he could go forth with whatever plans he had for the child.

Toivo's uncle, however, had no intention of leaving his nephew within the assassin's clutches left Toivo with several families as a mean of keeping Toivo safe, but after the assassin gruesomely slaughtered each of these families his uncle decided to keep Toivo within his care. He did his best to provide for Toivo and protect him against the horrors the assassin might try to inflict upon him. The assassin for his part came to care a great deal for Toivo and wished to provide and protect him just as his uncle had. He just didn't share Toivo's uncle's opinion on how such a thing should be done. Eventually, Both Toivo and his uncle came to realize the truth about the assassin's affection for Toivo and his uncle began to try to influence the assassin's treatment of Toivo rather than attempt to remove his nephew from his care entirely. It was due to these influences that Toivo had a semblance of a normal childhood--even when the assassin was in control.

It was because of this influence that Toivo was allowed to attend school and the school he ended up attending was the same one that his sister Ciara attended. He didn't realize at first that they were related until later, and it wasn't because the truth about his parentage had been kept from him. Both his uncle and the assassin had been honest about who his biological parents had been. No, Toivo lack of awareness had been due to other factors and when he discovered the truth he did not reveal it to Ciara. He thought about it, but he didn't know how she might respond to the news. They weren't exactly enemies, but the fact they ran in different circles didn't foster any semblance of friendship between them. Mostly they tolerated each other. It wasn't just this that kept his lips sealed he wasn't exactly certain how much of the truth Ciara knew, and he didn't think it was his place to reveal it to her.

Then one day, Ciara's boyfriend died in a horrible car accident. The news devasted Ciara and many wrote her refusal to accept that her boyfriend had died in the crash off as someone unable to deal with the grief of his passing. Some even suggested that she get counseling to help her process his death, but Toivo's knowledge of the supernatural world made it impossible for him to outright dismiss her claim before looking at the evidence. Once he did he realized that there was truth to her belief, but he would not be able to offer Ciara his aid to uncover the truth because she vanished herself. He assumed on a quest to figure out what happened to her boyfriend, but her disappearance could have been for a number of reasons, and while he might have wanted to go after her the assassin rendered that desire irrelevant because he decided that Toivo needed to focus on his training. Any attempt that Toivo and his uncle tried to make to uncover the reason behind this change fell upon deaf ears. What was clear was any semblance that Toivo had of a normal childhood was now over.

Present

Everything the assassin made Toivo endure over the next three years might have been regarded as abusive or even downright torturous to others, but it was clear he was not forcing Toivo to endure these for cruelty's sake. It might be said that this was a common argument for someone who found themselves in his situation, but Toivo knew that it was the affection the assassin held for him that drove his action more than anything else--even if the assassin never came out and said it. In many ways, Toivo was grateful to the assassin for pushing him the way that he did. He doesn't think that his powers would have grown and developed in the manner that it had if it wasn't for the assassin's guiding hand. He knew that it wouldn't have under his uncle's guidance for as much as his uncle loved Toivo and wanted to help him develop his powers he was just as clueless as Toivo was on what that meant. He knew as much as Toivo did about the world that Toivo's grandparents came from and all that information came from the assassin, who was not the most forthcoming about the details of the world that didn't directly aid Toivo to learn how to use his powers.

Toivo had always been curious about where his grandparents had came from but those three years of intense training brought it to the forefront. He decided to seek the answers from other sources besides the assassin and eventually found his way into Asmiara. At the time, Toivo believed that the assassin would be angry for defying him, but when he displayed none of the anger that Toivo expected the next time they encountered Toivo wonders if he was allowed to leave. Whatever the truth, Toivo begun to explore this new world that was much different than the one he had been living upon. He quickly realized two things. The first being while he had always held a fondness for earth it never felt like home. There was always this sense of disconnect with Earth. It didn't take him long to realize that Asmiara was what he had been looking for his entire life. The second he discovered what happened to his sister. Ciara had uncovered the truth about her heritage for herself. He hasn't come forward about his relationship to her. Through, he hasn't revealed to her that he is within the neighborhood.

She isn't the only member of his family that is unaware of his existence. None of his family is aware even if they do come across each other from time to time. He tell himself that he will reveal the truth to them, but than distract himself by exploring more about this new world that he found himself within. He doesn't know why he doesn't just tell them. Perhaps, it is fear of rejection. Through, he doesn't know if he fears they will reject him or that the assassin might believe Toivo was rejecting him.
